How is the result of a game indicated on a DGT e-Board?

When you are playing with a DGT e-Board you can indicate the result of a game with the Kings. This feature is extremely important when a tournament is set-up with DGT e-Boards.

When a game is ended and before analyzing the game, you should indicate to the LiveChess software how the game was ended. The LiveChess software will recognize the position of the Kings and will know by the Kings position as placed by the arbiter what the final game result is. To allow correct detection of the game end position, wait 5 seconds after positioning the Kings before starting to analyze the game.

For a correct detection of the game end status you must place the Kings on two of the center squares (d4, d5, e4,e5). Do understand that this immediately ends the game. Following moves will not be included in the notation.
Note: To place the Kings in this position, be sure that the move of the first King should be an illegal move. If in the first situation white has to move and his King was on e4 and he moves it to d5, this move is detected as legal and will logically be included in the game's notation.  In such rare case the black King should be moved first.

To be sure that the game ending is detected correctly: You can lift both Kings same time before placing them back in the center fields as indicated in below pictures.

black wins white wins
Both Kings on a dark square (d4, e5): 0 - 1 ,
Black wins the game
Both Kings on a white square (d5, e4) 1 - 0,
White wins the game

One King on a light square, the other on
a dark square:1/2 - 1/2, Draw.

We suggest to download a PDF version of this article and add this to the tournament regulations.

Another accepted procedure  to indicate the result of a game is to set up the starting position again with the winning King in one of the centre squares. (Or both Kings in case of a draw).

DGT also has designed special "Game-end pieces" to indicate the result of a game or to send special command to chess programs and LiveChess. An arbiter can use these pieces for correct game end notation.
