International Master Van Wijgerden trained and coached an almost endless list of players many of whom went on to become Grandmasters. He also developed the renowned Step-by-Step chess teaching method, arguably the most superior way to learn and teach chess that was ever created.
A range of exciting new DGT Chess Starter Boxes with customized plastic DGT chess pieces, a 2-way folded DGT chess board, the famous DGT Chess Trainer CD (upgraded version in French, German, English, Russian, Spanish en Dutch) and the DGT960 is introduced at the Nürnberg and New York Toy Fairs. The Starter Boxes are available from August 2013.
In 2002 Christian Freeling put out a challenge that Havannah programs would not be able to beat him even once in a ten game match on a base-10 board, in the next ten years. From 15 to 19 October 2012 this 'Man vs Machine' Havannah Challenge took place at the DGT offices, against three talented program(mer)s: Timo Ewalds with Castro, Marcin Ciura with Lajkonik and Richard Lorentz with Wanderer.
DGT often hosts matches between chess teams competing in the national league. These games are broadcast live on the internet. Also chess tournaments are held at the DGT building.
In 2012 also other different mind sports will be organized at DGT: Shogi, Stratego and Speedcubing (Rubik's cube).
